Winter and Christmas were usually not all that exciting for Hakkun in previous years. He always dreamed and fantasized about having a special someone to spend Christmas with. But it was never something that became real for him.
That is, before this year.
Having Rom walking through the snow beside him made him feel warm in many ways. He couldn't help but closely hold onto Rom's arm.
Rom chuckled. "You're smiling a lot."
Hakkun's face heated up immediately, finally noticing he was smiling so much that his cheeks hurt a little. He had waited so long to be able to be like this with Rom. So everytime they did go out together, he got perhaps a bit too excited.
"Don't worry about it." Rom ruffled his hair, which made Hakkun blush even more. Yet he felt so much joy in his heart.
But the embarrassment was just as big as the joy. So he impulsively whined and grabbed a handful of snow and threw it at him. "Don't tease me!"
Surprised, Rom remained silent for a moment. During which Hakkun realised what he had done and he flailed his arms around as his face burned. "S-sorry! I wasn't thinking! P-please don't get m- AH!"
He was interrupted by a snowball hitting him in the chest.
When his eyes met Rom's, Rom laughed. "I'm not mad."
Hakkun's heart skipped a beat. Rom's laugh and smile were just so great to hear and see…
He let out a muffled squeal as he covered his cheeks with his hands and turned his back to him, his civet ears drooping in embarrassment and his tail remaining perfectly still. But then he shouted when he felt another snowball hitting him on his back. And yet another one hit his arm as he turned around.
Rom was crouching down, preparing another snowball with a mischievous grin on his face.
Hakkun pouted and puffed his cheeks. "Fine! You asked for it!" He hurriedly stepped away from Rom, then crouched down and started making a snowball himself.
Rom threw another snowball at him. But, this time, Hakkun saw it quickly enough to dodge it by jumping to the side. He threw his own snowball forward. But his throw wasn't strong enough by just a bit. Rom took only one step backwards and the snowball had hit his shoe instead of his body.
Hakkun groaned, hurrying to prepare another snowball. This time, Rom's next ball hit his thigh, making him fall over to his side and destroy his snowball in the process.
"Are you okay?" Rom asked, stopping himself from throwing another snowball.
Hakkun sat up and rubbed his arm. It didn't hurt much. It was unlikely he had gotten badly injured. "I think I'm fine."
Hakkun quickly stood to his feet and pouted at Rom, who simply chuckled at him. It made his cheeks burn. He recognised very well the way he chuckled when he was thinking Hakkun had a cute expression on him.
Embarrassed, Hakkun gave up on the snowball fight. He had a better idea for getting revenge from Rom.
Hakkun ran in his direction. It was so sudden that Rom didn't have time to think what to do. So Hakkun crashed into him, making both of them fall over. Hakkun quickly took a deep breath, then kissed Rom on the lips.
He wasn't used to initiating kisses, so his face was still burning quite a bit. But before he could even think of pulling back, Rom put a hand to the back of his head and deepened the kiss.
Hakkun couldn't help the gasp that left him. Rom's kissing was gentle, yet he couldn't help but feel hot and bothered by the sensation of their tongues against each other.
He pulled away from the kiss, getting off Rom and sitting on the snow beside him as his face burned. Rom chuckled again, proceeding to kiss Hakkun's cheek.
"C'mon, get up." Rom said as he stood up, extending his hand towards him. "Do you wanna get some hot chocolate?"
"S-sure!" Hakkun grabbed his hand, and Rom pulled him to his feet.
"Let's go, then. There's a cafe nearby."
Hakkun nodded, walking beside him. As they walked, he shyly held onto Rom's arm. Rom didn't seem to oppose it, so Hakkun held it tighter. His face was burning, and he could swear his heart would jump out of his chest at any moment from how hard it was beating. But being so close to him felt so nice. It made him feel warmer.
Rom chuckled. He looked down at him, and then raised an eyebrow. He had just realised Hakkun's civet ears were completely exposed to the cold. "Are your ears okay?"
"They're a bit cold. But it's fine." Hakkun replied.
Rom was quiet, so Hakkun had expected it to end at that. However, Rom stopped walking. He took off his beanie, then put it on Hakkun's head instead, making sure his ears were covered.
"There we go." Rom patted his head.
"T-thank you." Hakkun said in a shy tone. He felt so happy, having Rom caring about him.
He wondered if maybe Rom would forget to get his beanie back. Hakkun wouldn't mind keeping it for a while.
He shoved the thought away from his head, cheeks burning. He focused on the thought of sharing hot chocolate with Rom instead. And, maybe, go to his place to have some cake…
