Furanui felt awful.
His whole body was burning, his head hurt, he was barely able to breath from how clogged his nose was and his throat was so closed up he doubted he would even be able to speak properly if he tried. He hadn't been able to sleep well at all that night, it being impossible for his brain to fully turn off in the state he was in.
He had barely even been able to tell it was time to wake up, at first imagining it was just his aforementioned difficulty sleeping making him more conscious for a few minutes.
However, he felt the bed sinking a little beside him. When he slowly opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was Karurusu's face just a few centimeters away from his.
He groaned. "You're gonna get sick too if you get that close to me." He quickly turned his face away and covered his mouth as he coughed. The wet towel that had been on his forehead dropped to his pillow.
However, Karurusu giggled. "Don't worry so much. Just rest as much as you need." He pulled his face away as he got off the bed, then grabed the towel and put it on the dresser by the bed. "I've already asked for someone to bring some medicine and some soup." He clapped his hands together and smiled widely. "I'll take care of you all day! So just rest up and don't worry about a thing!"
Furanui groaned again. His mind was so fuzzy he couldn't even think of a response. Even after blowing his nose, it would clog up again a few minutes later. The tissue box was almost empty, too...
"Oh, I forgot to ask for another tissue box. I'll do that when they bring everything else." Karurusu said before giving Furanui a kiss on the cheek.
Furanui, being caught off-guard by the kiss, went into another coughing fit from the shock. Karurusu quickly handed him a water bottle. He wasn't even able to thank him before taking it off his hands.
They heard a knock at the door, and Karurusu rushed to open it. Furanui couldn't see what he was doing through the closed curtains of his bed, but he imagined it was the soup and medicine he had asked for.
As he thought, Karurusu came back with a bottle of medicine capsules in his hand, while using his magic to levitate the bowl of soup and the bed table beside him. He gave Furanui one of the pills, which he didn't hesitate to take into his mouth and then drink more of the water.
Karurusu sat down beside him on the bed before setting the bed table and bowl of soup on top of his lap. Furanui reached for the spoon but, to his surprise, Karurusu had grabbed it himself. He took a spoonful of soup and lightly blew on it to cool it down.
"Say 'ahh'." Karurusu requested with a smile.
"I can eat by myself." Furanui said, his voice coming out a bit hoarse. His cheeks heated up, but not because of any fever this time.
Karurusu pouted, looking at him with pleading eyes that Furanui couldn't resist... Maybe just one spoonful would be okay...
Furanui opened his mouth, and Karurusu immediately smiled again as he carefully guided the spoon into his mouth. It tasted great, as he had expected. It wasn't hot enough to burn his tongue, but still warm enough to be comforting. It was perfect.
But right as he saw Karurusu trying to put the spoon into the soup again, he grabbed his wrist to stop him. "Can I feed myself now?"
"But I wanna spoil you more!" Karurusu pouted again.
"Well, I don't want that. I am not that helpless." He managed to forcefully take the spoon out of Karurusu's hand. And to prove his point, he ate another spoonful of soup with no struggle.
Karurusu didn't say anything or try to argue, and just looked down at the bed sheets sadly.
Furanui felt a pang at his chest. Had he been a bit too harsh, perhaps?
Karurusu got up once again, going over to the dresser, where the damp towel as well as a bowl of water were. He dipped a finger into the water, and then cupped the outside of the bowl with both of his hands. His hands gained a faint blue glow. If Furanui had to guess, he was cooling the water down with magic.
There was a knock at the door again. Karurusu rushed over, and a few minutes later was back at Furanui's side with a new tissue box. He placed it beside the almost empty one.
Karurusu glanced at Furanui, then quickly looked down at his feet as he just stood there, leaning a little on the bedside table. He fidgetted with his nails, the smile still not returning to his face.
Furanui felt that pang of guilt again. Even if he had been a little annoying, he didn't want to see Karurusu so down. He sighed. "Cheer up a little."
Karurusu almost jumped as he looked at him, not having expected Furanui to talk to him.
"I'm sorry if I was too mean to you. But I don't want to see you like that."
"No, it's fine. I was being too pushy, wasn't I?" He looked down again. "It's just... We haven't been spending that much time together because of how much you've been working... And you probably caught this cold exactly because you weren't resting properly..."
Furanui looked down at his soup. Everything Karurusu had said was true. Furanui wasn't nearly as clingy as his brother was, but the time he had spent busy had been enough for even him to feel like it was too much time apart. Even though they had been sharing a bed for a pretty long while, that didn't do much to help when Furanui would pass out almost immediately and then need to get up in a rush in the morning.
Furanui sighed again. "You can spoil me as much as you want later. But having you feed me is... A bit too much."
Karurusu looked up, and finally smiled again. The sight made Furanui smile a little himself.
He patted the spot beside him on the bed. Understanding right away, Karurusu crawled to his side and snuggled up to him. Furanui thought of telling him that getting that close could be dangerous for his own health, but he remembered that he hadn't cared the last time he said that. So he just rolled his eyes and chuckled. At least the position still allowed him to eat comfortably.
As he was dipping his spoon back into the soul, he suddenly sneezed. The bed table shook a bit, but Karurusu quickly held it in place so the soup wouldn't spill.
Furanui wiped his noze with a tissue and smiled slightly. "Thank you for looking after me..."
Karurusu just stared at him for a second, and then smiled widely before giving him a long kiss on the cheek. The shock almost gave Furanui another coughing fit.
If Karurusu got sick as well from being so close to him, he'd just have to be the one taking care of him instead... Perhaps it wouldn't be too bad.
