Need Nothing Else

Akihiko and Haruhiko had put on many layers of warm clothes before leaving their house that day. But even that wasn't enough to stop the cold from almost freezing them. Just the sight of snow made it even worse.

As soon as they got home, they turned on the heater. Haru headed to the kitchen to prepare some hot chocolate, meanwhile Aki bolted to their bedroom.

At first, the idea of just throwing himself onto the bed was very tempting. Everywhere else in the house was freezing cold, yet the blankets could help with that problem so easily.

But after a moment, an idea crossed his mind. Along with a memory that made him blush. He proceeded to grab as many blankets and pillows as he could carry and bring them to the living room.

He began building a fort using the couch, the blankets and the pillows. It had been years since he had last done anything like that, but he still had a general idea of what he should do to keep it standing.

When Haru came back from the kitchen with two mugs of hot chocolate, Aki had finished his building and settled onto the comfy parts.

"A pillow fort?" Haru asked.

"Yeah." Aki took the mug Haru offered him, which was the one with the most marshmallows. "It's been years since we made one. I guess the cold made me nostalgic." He tried to hide his blushing with his scarf. He hoped that, even if Haru did see a hint of it, he'd assume it was from the warm drink.

Haru was blushing even more than him as he sat down beside him. Aki couldn't help but smile at that, holding back a giggle.

The last time they had made a pillow fort… It was a heartwarming memory, and also one that would make both of their hearts skip a beat.

It was back when they were still in middle school. Even back in space, winters were quite cold. So they were used to being wrapped in blankets together to stay warm.

Their father had to stay late at work that night. And both of them, being bored, decided to make a pillow fort together for fun. The final result was far from perfect, but it was good enough for them either way.

And it was that night that they realized just how much they meant to each other. How much they cared about each other.

As long as they had each other, they wouldn't be alone. It didn't matter if their classmates were mean to them, or if their father didn't seem to care much for what they wanted.

They still had each other. That was all they needed.

They had their first kiss that night. It was just a small peck on the lips that had left Haru red to the tips of his ears, but it had confirmed to the both of them that they felt the same way towards each other.

Haru and Aki had finished drinking their hot chocolate and set the empty cups aside. Now, they were just lying down together, hugging with their legs intertwined, foreheads touching.

They had forgotten about the cold at this point. After all, they didn't need to worry about it anymore.

Not as long as they had each other.
